Who then is my neighbor?
This next week we’ll be taking our kids on a mission trip while never leaving our own county. We’re spending a week meeting needs in our own community, serving in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and interfaith relief centers all right around home. It is my prayer that our youth group will begin to understand that they are missionaries in their own communities. This whole idea of missional living has impacted me like crazy lately and I hope to pass it on to our youth. It’s funny, we’ve taken the kids to eastern Europe, Mexico and to other states on mission trips, but I’ve never been this excited about any of them! Because the potential for ongoing relationships and for kids to begin to really live missionally is much greater than any of our other trips. And it only cost a little over $100! couldn’t get to Europe or Mexico for that price…but the significance is no less and potentially much more because we can continue to have an affect on people that we meet and organizations we serve for years to come on a regular basis.
I’m going to be blogging as much as possible (once/day?) next week to keep everyone informed of what’s going on at Mission Ashburn, so look for new blogs each day or subscribe to the RSS feed!
The Spirit of the Lord is on me
because he has annointed me to proclaim good news to the poor
he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. ——Help us Jesus to fulfill this high calling——
