The Good Life

€œThe greatest proof of Christianity for others is not how far a man can logically analyze his reasons for believing, but how far in practice he will stake his life on his belief.€?   –TS Elliot

Elliot hits on something that resonates with me.  I know why I believe, but does that affect the trajectory of my life?  I know and love Jesus, but I am constantly questioning whether or not I’m prepared to follow him with the kind of dedication and devotion that he models.  How often am I touching lepers?  How often am I concerned about the whole gospel, not just the words part?  How far am I really willing to go for what I believe?  Does my life look any different than those around me?  Is anything different other than what I believe privately?

Jesus’ belief and agenda was public, not merely private.  My belief in him requires me to look at the world differently and to affect the world differently.  I can no longer sit and watch as innocent people die.  I can’t hear the voices of those in need and turn a deaf ear.  I can’t see world news and merely be affected internally.  If my faith really matters, I must respond externally.

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.”  –Jesus

Do you really believe this?  What does it mean for the rest of your life? What does it mean you will do?  What does it mean for others?
