A Must Read
Dan Kimball, a pastor in Santa Cruz, CA has written a great new book called They Like Jesus but not the Church. Kimball has interviewed many people who either have left the church or have decided they want nothing to do with it. He has gleaned valuable arguments for the need for change in our local churches.
Under the section “What Emerging Generations Think about the Church,” the chapter headings include: 5 the church is an organized religion with a political agenda, 6 the church is judgmental and negative, 7 the church is dominated by males and oppresses females, 8 the church is homophobic, 9 the church claims all other religions are wrong, 10 the church is full of fundamentalists who take the whole Bible literally.
This is a must read for anyone with any authority to change our churches. Kimball has pointed out that we need to be attentive to the opinions/thoughts of those outside the church, or we risk never reaching them. Check it out.

You know me. I don’t like reading much but I really wanna read this book. Sounds a LOT like my friends and I.
yeah I hear you, it’s impacting Elizabeth and I a lot. We’re both reading it right now. Hope you’re doing well Patrick, good to see you last week.
cool, my friend rob and i were actually talking about this recently on the walk home from school. he said that he liked the whole idea of chritianity, but not the idea of church. he said he didnt like how there were different denominations of christianity and those denominations believed different things than the other ones. ill have to tell him about this book…
Morgan,
you should read the book yourself…it’s written more for those in the church to better understand those not in the church…he’s writing another one next year called “I like Jesus but Not the Church” that’s more for people who don’t like the church. That’s cool though, I’m really glad to hear you’re talking to your friends about Jesus…How did you respond to him?
