What Child is This?

Thoughts and images of Mary and Jesus as a baby have new meaning for me this year.  My son is 3 1/2 months old and there is nothing sweeter than to see my wife holding him. 

 ”So they [shepherds] hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:16-19.

Knowing what I now know of a mother’s love for her child, I cannot imagine what must have been going through Mary’s mind as she “treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.”  The miracle of having a child is enough to boggle one’s mind, but that on top of being the mother of Jesus - God with us - and the miracle of the virgin birth…Mary’s mind and heart must have felt ready to explode!  This Christmas I’ll be thinking about those miracles in light of what I’ve experienced with own my son’s birth, and I too wil ponder these things in my heart…

Thank you Lord for the miracle of your coming as a human being.
